OK, I don't mind keeping this page up! Here are some examples of work that I have done over the years...

Here is a document that I created for my former employer. I also created a technical manual that is not available online. My typical duties at Ansul included creating technical manuals and sales literature pieces. I worked with engineers to understand the equipment, and then collaborated with our graphic designer to make the piece. I did not know anything about the fire suppression industry when I started at Ansul, but through my skills as a writer and communicator I was able to wrap my head around the concepts and communicate them effectively to a variety of audiences.
In one of my classes I learned an acronym for evaluating the effectiveness of a graphically designed document called BUPSE which stands for balance, unity, proportion, sequence, and emphasis. I always liked this tool as it was a way for me to quickly check if a piece I was working on had all of the right elements in it. I made the following page that illustrates this concept in a few different creations I have made including an interactive Flash game and a video.

Here is another document that I created for my former employer. This was another sales sheet that I made.
Here is a piece that I created for one of my clases. In this document, I focused on eight design elements that can be used when creating a document. The elements I focused on are: serif versus sans serif fonts, ascenders versus descenders, drop caps, kerning, page gutters, text wrap, creating interlaced shapes in Adobe Illustrator, and ligatures (creating unique text shapes in Illustrator). This piece was fun to create because I had to apply my new-found knowledge of the design world, and I had to make an educational piece to help the reader actually do some of these tasks in the real world.

I knew nothing about video creation when I started taking classes with Rasmussen, but I knew that I had the skills to adapt to new software programs and succeed in making my artistic vision a reality. Using Adobe Premiere Pro was definitely a challenge: not only did I have to record the video, but I also had to sync everything together perfectly...video, sounds, and images. For one of my projects, each student in the class was assigned a school within the college and had to make a video featuring that school. We had to create the video with a potential student's interests in mind: are you thinking of becoming a Nursing student at Rasmussen? Well here are some of the things that might interest you. I spent time with Nursing students and had them show me some of their skills. I liked working on this video and learning a new medium.
Here is a YouTube link to my video. Be sure to turn the volume up to hear it, and turn the volume back down when you are done!
Throughout my career at Rasmussen College I made a lot of different pieces. During one of my courses I was presented with some unique challenges such as fitting a lot of text into a page, or using different principals such as alignment to correct a poorly designed document.
